Doggy
daycare and fitness center! If you need a place where
your lonely greyhound can spent his day while you're at work,
SpawZ Doggie Daycare and Fitness Center in Seattle
is the ideal place. Owned and operated by Ann Marie Shields, a Greyhound owner for 18 years, SpawZ is a daycare
which is unique from all others. It's a great alternative to
the traditional high-energy daycare since it's smaller (max. 25
dogs) and caters to dogs who are overwhelmed by the larger,
louder environments. Plus, there's an indoor heated pool and
underwater treadmill for exercise and conditioning. YES,

A Dogs Dream store
for Greyhound goodies! They're in Georgetown just South of
the downtown Seattle industrial district. In addition to general
pet supplies, they carry Greyhound-specific items like
coats/jackets, pajamas, fancy martingale collars, handmade Grey
greeting cards, and more!

Did you know? About 20% of lost
Greyhounds are either found dead or never found at all. The top
three reasons for escape are (in order) open gates, open doors,
and loose collars. Please take the time to check security
on a regular basis. Gates are best kept padlocked or at least
fitted with springs so they close automatically. Collars should
be martingale-style and checked regularly for fit (they loosen with time)
by pulling the D-ring tight behind the dog's ears and making
sure there's no slack.

Would you like
to become a part of our Grey-sitting co-op? It's pretty
simple - you take care of someone else's Greyhound(s) while
they're out of town, and in turn you can make few extra bucks
($15 to $20 a day per dog is standard) or swap dog-sitting with
them! Everyone then gets peace of mind knowing that their
pup is well-cared for by people who know Greyhounds. If you're

email with your location, contact info, how many dogs you have
and how many you would be willing to care for, whether you're
looking for pay or swap arrangements, as well as any
special needs or restrictions.

non-profit (501c3) corporation run completely by volunteers and are a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America. Our mission
is to educate people about retired racing Greyhounds, and to find good
homes for these wonderful dogs. Most of our dogs come from the midwest, but we also deal with
displaced local hounds who need a
helping hand. |

Perhaps you're not quite
ready to adopt, but would like more detailed information about retired
racing Greyhounds and their adjustment to life as pets? Check
out our links page for some very extensive websites to visit.
There are also books on the subject widely available at larger pet and
book stores.
If you're ready to take
the plunge, use our on-line application or feel free to print it out and mail
it to the address below. We'll call you back
as soon as possible. Please bear in mind that we are all volunteers
with full time jobs in addition to running PSGA, and we may not be
able to get back to you immediately.
If you're interested in
adopting but
don't see a dog here that meets your criteria, remember that more
Greyhounds are usually arriving on a regular basis - we can even "special
order" one for you, right from the track.
All of our Greyhounds are
cat-tested, and some are living in foster homes with small and older
children. We are extremely careful to place the right hound in
the right home, which helps the adoptive family and Greyhound adjust
to the new addition and environment. Our full support is behind
every adoption to help the new family and hound make the transition
smoothly. We are proud of our low re-home rate!
Currently, for each
adoption we ask a donation of $200.00, which
includes the following:
- All initial vet work,
including spay/neuter, any needed vaccinations, a full dental, and
worming.
- A new martingale collar and matching 6' leash
- Lightweight turnout muzzle
- PSGA Identification Tag
